Unheard Melodies: A Symphony of Silence and Self-Discovery with Oscar Jhonny Ramirez Torres
My journey begins with a hope that my story might illuminate paths for others navigating a world they, like me, struggle to fully comprehend.
From early on, I sensed a dissonance with my surroundings amidst my five siblings. Seeking solace, I'd retreat to organizing and collecting items, finding peace in solitude and self-reflection. Noise provoked anger, yet a pivotal encounter with music opened unexpected doors.
Introduced to instruments through reluctant attendance at my sister's music practices, I reluctantly said yes to learning—an act born of fear rather than desire. Surprisingly, I excelled, becoming a proficient musician despite my ongoing aversion to noise.
At 16, my talent propelled me into teaching music in a distant Colombian municipality, a leap of faith before completing high school or obtaining citizenship. Eventually, I pursued formal musical training, specializing in the saxophone, finding solace in its melodies amidst the cacophony of the world.
Driven by a lifelong quest for self-understanding, I embarked on a journey of introspection, seeking answers to my unique behaviors. At 45, a diagnosis of autism spectrum disorder shed light on my experiences, providing clarity and acceptance.
Today, as an educator leading "Manizales Ciudad Robotica," I merge my personal insights with professional expertise to nurture an inclusive environment. With a commitment to guiding children on the spectrum, I strive to foster understanding and acceptance in my community, leveraging my own journey to illuminate theirs.
